Description
Plough anchors, also known as ‘CQR’ (Coastal Quick Release) are a popular choice due to their versatility and ability to hold well in various seabed conditions.
Design: Plough anchors typically have a plough-shaped design with a single fluke that resembles a plough used in agriculture. This shape allows them to dig into the seabed and set securely.
Material: Made from quality galvanised steel for durability and to withstand the harsh marine environment.
Versatility: Plough anchors are known for their ability to hold well in a wide range of seabed types including sand, mud, clay and gravel, making them suitable for an array of anchoring situations.
Holding Power: Plough anchors are designed to provide strong holding power, especially when set properly, allowing them to bury into the seabed. To set a plough anchor effectively, slowly motor backward while letting out anchor rode (chain or rope). This allows the anchor to bury itself securely.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspecting for damage or corrosion, is essential to ensure the anchor’s performance and longevity.
Remember that the choice of anchor depends on various factors including the size, weight & type of your boat, the seabed conditions you encounter and your boating preferences. It is essential to select the right anchor type and size for your specific needs to ensure safe and secure anchoring.
If in doubt: Get in touch and our expert team will assist you in selecting the correct anchor for your needs.
